@dwilson I have to say that I’m disappointed that Buddypress doesn’t seem to offer threaded discussion, and entries are just sequential.
Come to think of it, LinkedIn forums aren’t threaded either. I guess that not threading encourages messages to be shorter and end sooner, rather than going on in complicated structures.

@dwilson Yes, the filters help get your attention. The default view is ”All Members”, but could be more focused with ”My Friends” … if you’re selective. The definition of ”friend” is subtle, in that sense.

@dwilson Sure. The sitewide activity feed for SysCOI.com is at http://syscoi.com/commons/activity/feed/ , and that can imported into any aggregator (e.g. Google Reader, Plaxo). At http://learn.linkedin.com/groups/, it reads: “RSS items can all be featured by clicking ‘Add to Manager’s Choice’ from the top of any item’s detail page”.

FYI…the feed looks great in LinkedIn. All posts in syscoi are now showing on a rolling banner on the LinkedIn group. Great publicity for syscoi and a good method for gnerating interest in the LinedIn group among those who have not come to syscoi yet. Check it out!

Ackoff Virtual Inquiry Center (AVIC): 1 year, 10 months agoI at first didn’t quite understand @daviding ‘s distinction between a walled garden site and an ‘open’ site. In reply to: Dennis Wilson posted an update: does not think the #syscoi twitter feeds are working. @dbarber @daviding ViewOK, this is good. We need to coach John on this then to begin leveraging his Twitter network. John Hall would be good too but he hasn’t been overly active. John and I spoke breifly about the use of hashtags. @dwilson If you’re talking about the automated publishing from syscoi.com to http://twitter.com/syscoi , there’s a limit of 5 entries every 30 minutes by Twitterfeed. The alternative is to check the Twitter box and post it from your own account (which you have to specify in your profile).
-
Ahh, OK. If I check the Twitter box, will my update be fed to both my account as well as the syscoi account?
-
@dwilson Yes, two entirely different data streams. The checkbox goes to your Twitter feed, not the one at http://twitter.com/syscoi .

@dwilson @jp2consult Sure, I’m always on Skype. Just name the time.
I think that Johnnie hasn’t completely filled out his profile including his Twitter ID. It should be under My Account … Profile … Edit Profile … Settings … Tweetstream …

Yes. I have to add my Twitter account as well. I can’t do it at work…ugh. Organizations need to get out of their own way. Allow Twitter! I’ll have mine done tonight.

-
@dwilson On the Wordpress Tweetstream plugin page, I don’t see the ability to directly tweet to two accounts. You’ll have to manually retweet … which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

@dwilson It looks like most of the Wordpress plugin for “thumbs up/down” are mostly Digg-like popularity polls, which isn’t what I think you need.
We could install survey software on the web site, if that suits you’re purpose. I’ve never used it before, but one of the open source one-button install scripts is LimeSurvey. There’s a…[Read more]

Hi Dennis. You can sign up at wordpress.com and start a blog there. They manage the software ware so it may be the right place to start. If you find that the free features don’t meet your needs ,you can upgrade to the premium account.

OK Thanks. Why would I use wordpress over somethig like Google Blogger?
-
@dwilson I created a blog post a long time ago about getting started in blogging, that may (or may not) answer some of your questions.
The motivation for using Wordpress.COM is future mobility. If/when you decide that you want to own your own domain, it’s easy to export and reimport the content without much effort. While there are lots of…[Read more]
