I just pushed a fairly large update to Model Report.

Off the top of my head, this adds:

  • User icons next to comments and posts (enable in this your account settings)
  • You can now hide stories
  • Reply text fields will resize as you enter text
  • ‘@’ is escaped in the search field
  • List of newest users on users list page
  • Quick search url. E.g. https://model.report/search/test will search items containing “test”

    @scottfr Thankyou!

This is getting so much better.

@mikehaber - you wanna learn some ‘critical reflection’ and action researchy stuff in concert with me as explore and understand MR some more?

@scottfr text box is expanding nicely as I write.

Search breaks when ending with “-” think you are very nearly there.

    Like the new users listing.

    Hiding stories is useful.

    Url v. Good!

A great improvement. It might be nice to prioritize some more functionality and monitoring in a systematic way, but would like to check how possible things are with you first?

    Thanks

    Tom

Also, you can expand and collapse comment threads.

Note on the icons, for people to see your picture you need to have a Gravatar associated with your email. You can get one here:

        https://en.gravatar.com/

Not sure gravatars are working right? I’m a funny purple blob - though Gene and you work - and I seem to have a functioning gravatar at gravatar.com and elsewhere on t'web?

Does everyone have facebook, linkedin, tumblr, twitter, and + share on the right and a ‘recommended for you’ popup ‘powered by AddThis’ or is that something I picked up on my travels?!

Hi @antlerboy-benjamintaylor, I’m mentioned in the post above and it’s highlighted in yellow. I’ve just shared this on facebook (and it’s made a proper mess of my ‘kitten a day’ timeline). The bit that gets shared to facebook is only the part I’m mentioned in, not the whole post. I also get powered by add this. EDIT: Facebook links back to this post OK.

cool - and some fiddling I did in gravatar seems to have brought little cartoon me back instead of the (admittedly attractive) purploe blob..

Note that you can see people’s full sized gravatar’s on their profile pages.

Hi @tomhitchman, It would be great to learn some critical reflection / action research stuff :-)

Great.I will start a thread tomorrow with appropriate invite.

Sorry @Scottfr, Couple of things off the top of my head that mean work for you :-)

Is there a way of autocompleting peoples @names that I haven’t found?

Could we send an email to the writer of articles that get shared here to say “Your article has been shared on Model.Report, have a look at the community here”. It could get us some more members?

            1. 1

Autocomplete of names isn’t possible, but you can see all users at:

              https://model.report/u

I think sending article authors an email is a great idea. I’m not good at stuff like that, but if you wanted to, please go ahead. You should also invite them to be a member at the same time otherwise they wouldn’t be able to comment.

Would it be possible to add a field on the submit page that could contain an email address, and send a boilerplate welcome email? That would allow some consistency, and perhaps make it easier to use?

              Scott,

I wondered if you could do the same text trick to the other text boxes in the site:

              • composing a message to another user (maybe with a preview button so then have a chance to resize to the text?)

              • Also in the ‘Invite a New User’ since we may want to personalise this a little, at present it is only one line text box.

              Many thanks

              Tom

P.S mikehaber and Edtythe have come forward to help too. This is encouraging!

              1. 1

Sounds like a good idea, I’ll put it on the to-do list.

Looks like the update broke emails.

Testing they are working correctly now.

                1. 1

OK, looks like that fix wasn’t complete. Testing again…

                  1. 1

One more test of the new email system.
